The company must pay $ 502 million (without percentage). Apple aims to appeal to the court’s decision.
Apple should pay Optis Cellular Technology LLC $ 502 million at a time for using 4G-Patents on devices such as iPhone and iPad. The decision, made by the London Court of Appeal, became the next stage of a long -term judicial dispute, Reuters reports.
As you know, the company from Texas Optis filed a lawsuit against Apple in 2019, claiming that Apple uses the patents required for 4G technology. Earlier, the London High Court ruled that Apple had to pay nearly $ 56 million along with interest, but Optis considered this amount to be very small and challenged the decision.
The court ruled that the company should pay a significantly larger amount – $ 502 million (without percentage), covering the use of patents from 2013 to 2027. This payment has to do with the global license for Optis technology.
Apple aims to appeal to the court’s decision. The company representative noted that Optis is not involved in the labor, but only buying patents to file claims against companies using them.
Keep in mind that the European Commission has penalized 700 million euros of Apple and Meta for violating law requirements in digital markets (DMA).
Earlier, the French Antimonopoly Regulator Autorité de La Concurrency penalized Apple 150 million euros for abusing the dominant position in the globe of mobile applications on iOS and iPados.
