Wine production reduced by 4.8% and costs 225.8 million hectares, which is a minimum for over 60 years.

Wine consumption in the world in 2024 has fallen to the lowest level since 1961. It is stated in the study of the International Organization of Viticulture and Winema (OIV).

Last year, 214 million hectolitras of wine were sold to the world, 3.3% lower than the 2023 indicator. This is due to the sum of economic and geopolitical factors that provide an increase in inflation and create uncertainty, as well as changing population preferences.

Wine production reduced by 4.8% and costs 225.8 million hectares, which is a minimum of over 60 years. This is mainly due to unpredictable and severe weather phenomena both in the north and south hemispheres caused by climate change.

In addition, the fourth year in the world has been reduced by the vineyard area. In 2024, they dropped 0.6% to 7.1 million hectares.

The leader in the world of wine in the world last year was Italy (44.1 million hectares, +15%), France was in second place (36.1 million hectares, -23.5%), in the third – Spain (31 million hectares, +9.3%). The top 5 also includes the United States (21.1 million hectares, -17.2%) and Argentina (10.9 million hectares, +23.3%).

Spain has the largest vineyard in the world – 930 ha (-1.5%). Next are France (783 hectares -0.7%), China (753 hectares, -0.4%), Italy (728 hectares, +0.8%) and Türkiye (402 ha, -1%).

Remember that last year, wine manufacturers in Italy announced a wine making crisis. The cause of the low yield is the disease of the vine.

In Spain, the unknown pour thousands of thousands of selected wine
