The lowest price for China’s electric cars can replace tariffs that the EU entered into electric cars last year.
The European Union and China agreed to consider the possibility of introducing the minimum price for Chinese -Made electric cars instead of tariffs that the EU entered into electric cars last year. Reuters reported it.
The EU commissioner for trade Morosh Shefchovich is talking to the China Van Venta Minister of Community. The parties agree to consider the introduction of minimum prices.
Earlier, Shefchovich noted that any minimum price should be effective and controlled as EU tariffs.
In October 2024, the European Union raised tariffs for electrical cars made by Chinese to 45.3%, but now Brussels and Beijing have passed the idea of canceling them because of China’s obligation to increase the minimum price for cars.
Current European Tariffs rates form:
-
17% for BYD;
-
18.8% for Geely;
-
35.3% for saic.
All of this, in addition to the standard EU for cars in 10%.
The European Commission has already stated that it is ready to continue talking to China about the successor to the tariffs.
Negotiations on a potential compromise on tariffs between Europe and China are taking place against the fact that United States President Donald Trump has begun a trade war with many closest American partners, including EU and China.
Keep in mind that part of Chinese electrical vehicles in Europe in total sales in February has been reduced to a minimum to two years due to trade barriers. It dropped to 6.9% from 7.8% in January.
