Ukraine has joined the International Energy Agency (IEA) as an associate member. The corresponding agreement was signed in Warsaw, according to the organization’s website on Tuesday, July 19.

It is indicated that the document on the joint association between the IEA and Ukraine was signed by the Ukrainian Minister of Energy Herman Galushchenko and the Executive Director of the IEA Fatih Birol in the presence of the Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki and the Minister of Climate and Environment of Poland Anna Moscow.
According to the agency, the structure of the IEA Association allows for close cooperation and deepening of cooperation with its partner countries, sharing analysis, data and best practices.
Ten countries joined the IEA Association program: Argentina, Brazil, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Morocco, Singapore, South Africa and Thailand. Ukraine became the 11th member. At the same time, the IEA has been working in Ukraine for almost two decades.
In June, it was learned that Ukraine wanted to become a member of the IEA. Herman Galushchenko then approached the agency with a proposal for associate membership of the country.
The International Energy Agency is an autonomous international body within the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), established in 1974. It has 31 member countries, 11 associate member countries and three candidate countries for full membership. .
