It is indicated that the Bison Balker brought 80 thousand tons of coal from Metinvest’s own business to the United States – United Coal Company (UCC). This resource will help ensure stable operation of Ukraine’s metallurgical plants after suspension of mines in pokrovsk.
“The metinvest expects to receive a ship with 80 thousand tons of American Coking coal each month, which will allow you to close part of the needs of Zaporozhye and Camettali,” the report said.
Company CEO Yuri Rizhenkov noted that even though the imported cokes are more expensive than Ukrainian because of logistics, this is an important step to helping the Ukrainian economy.
“The supply of American coal not only supports the making of iron in our Businesses in KAMA’ansky and Zaporozhye, but also provides the work of thousands of employees and contractors, the globe of logistics, the railroad, Ukrainian budget tax income and a significant part of exporting Ukrainian money,” said.
The company recalled that they suspended the work of mines in Pokrovsk due to changes in the front line situation, electricity deficiency and safety destruction for employees.
“The Pokrovskaya coal group is the only coal manufacturer in Ukraine, which is required for the operation of metallurgical businesses. The coal business has provided a significant part of coal coal for their own metinvest consumption, and has also provided significant volumes to consumers both in Ukraine and beyond,” remembered the company.
Now metinvest has moved to alternative coking coal sources – the use of accumulated reserves, an additional supply of coal and coks from the side, as well as increasing supplies from UCC.
The United Coal Company is a metallurgical coal manufacturer working in the US Appalachian region. The company was established in 2004. It was taken by the Metinvest Group in April 2009.
Remember that Russian troops approached Pokrovsk, but in recent months their offensive slowed down. By the end of October 2024, the city was slightly blocked for defense.
