Media Critic Eric Boehlert Killed In New Jersey Bike Crash –

NEW YORK (AP) – Media critic Eric Bohlert, who created the Press Run website and wrote for Rolling Stone and Media Matters for America, has died in a bicycle accident. He is 57 years old.

Reporter Soledad O’Brien, a family friend, said Monday night that an avid bicycle train collided with a Bohlert passenger train en route to her home in Montclair, New Jersey.

He specializes in exposing disinformation and holding both journalists and politicians accountable, O’Brien, host of the Sunday talk show “Matter of Fact” said Wednesday.

“He’s a truth and a defender of truth,” he said.

On Twitter, Hillary Clinton called Bohlert’s death a “horrible story” on Wednesday.

“I was devastated by his family and friends and skipped his critical work to combat misinformation and media bias,” he wrote. “What a loss.”

He also wrote for Salon and Billboard and is the author of the books Lapdogs: How the Press Got Into Bush and Bloggers on the Bus: How the Internet Changed Politics and the Press. Bohlert is survived by his wife and two children.
