The company is launching a project to process high -voltage batteries. Thus, it prepares for the expected requirements for batteries in the European Union, which will enter the power in 2031.
German car manufacturer Porsche announced the introduction of a new initiative to process high -voltage batteries. This has been reported in the corresponding press release of the company.
The project aims to restore valuable raw materials from high voltage batteries after using them in vehicles, along with Porsche’s help try a potentially closed raw material cycle. In the long run, it is expected to create a network of processing high batteries storing in collaboration with external partners.
The process of processing three stages includes. First, the batteries removed from the vehicles after expiry of service life are mechanically chopped and processed in the so -called “Black Mass”, which contains important raw materials -nickel, cobalt, manganese and lithium. After that, the resulting mass was cleaned and followed -for the production of new batteries. In the third phase, the manufacture of new -voltage batteries with a certain portion of processed materials is expected, after which it will be examined in Porsche cars.
So far, about 65 tons of “black mass” has been done.
In this procedure, Porsche prepares for future regulation changes, especially for the expected requirements for batteries in the European Union, to enter into strength in 2031. Thanks to the early implementation of processed materials, the company wants to make the active contribution to a further decrease in its impact on the environment.
