Naybank helped the banks and established a relatively soft transitional period according to new capital requirements, allowing many of them not to violate the standards, Ekaterina Rozhkova said.
Banks income tax increases from 25% to 50% led to a collapse in capital below the standards by a number of banks in Ukraine. At the same time, no one has ever threatened them. This was said by the first deputy head of NBU Ekaterina Rozhkova in an interfax-Ukraine interview, published Friday, March 21.
“Now there is a big bank that will have an inadequate level of capital … Ukreximbank,” he said.
According to him, another State Bank, Senses Bank, has an adapted capitalization program based on the results of an initial stability assessment and moves within its framework.
Rozhkova noted that the NBU helped the banks and established a relatively soft transition period according to new capital requirements, allowing many of them not to violate the standards.
“We also allowed banks that, according to the results of the final stress test, needed additional capital, made changes to capitalization programs. According to preliminary expectations, in general, banks would retain an adequate capital supply, but some of them may require a change of capital programs based on the assessment of the stability of 2023,” said the first NBU representative.
He emphasized that now there is certainly no risk for financial stability.
Remember that in 2023, banks’ income tax increased from 18% to 50%. It is assumed that in 2024 banks pay taxes 25%. But Verkhovna Rada has adopted the rate of increasing rate again by 50%. This tax will be paid by banks by 2025 according to the results of the work in 2024.
Ukraine’s top-10 banks increased total income of 14%
