Since October, France and Ukraine have been organizing the use of Ukrainian minerals in the French defense industry. This was told by the France’s Sebastian Defense Minister to Lexorny in the air of Franceinfo.
This question, according to Lekorn, was raised by President Vladimir Zelensky during a visit to Paris in 2024. Kyiv then suggested that Paris consider the possibility of providing critical resources needed for making French weapons.
“It doesn’t matter how much we like it, but economic -related issues are always closely related to military -strategic issues and national security issues,” he emphasized.
The minister emphasized that minerals can be an important factor for strengthening the defense cooperation between Ukraine and France, especially considering the long-term needs of the French military-industrial complex.
Lekornya also noted that not only European countries, but also the United States show interest in Ukrainian resources. He noted that Ukraine considers raw materials as one of the levers in international negotiations.
