There are over 104,000 influencers in Peru, according to a study by the Influencity platform, but not all of them will be monitored for taxes.
According to Sunatin total, 250 “authorities” were identified who are required to pay tax on income received through social networks.
“Of these, the 50 with the most views register financial movements worth SGD 80 million a year,” Sunat sources told Gestión newspaper.
A recent Sunat report states that “influencers” are not just those who make a profit by producing and distributing advertising content on their websites. social networksbut those who receive money for providing early access to certain content, for example, on Patreon and Onlyfans, also fall into the classification.
These activities are considered commercial services, so these social media users must pay income tax of the third category, i.e. 29.5% of their income.
It is worth noting that the organization expects influencers to streamline the payout taxes from the time they started generating revenue on a regular basis for their content, not from the time a report was issued that made it clear that this should be done through the third category.
