Last year, vessels flying the State Flag of Ukraine produced 19,980 tons of valuable Antarctic aquatic biological resources.
In 2024, Ukrainian vessels caught the most aquatic biological resources in the last three years – almost 20 thousand tons. This was reported by the press service of the State Agency of Ukraine for the Development of Land Reclamation, Fisheries and Food Programs on Wednesday, January 22.
“Throughout 2024, in the area of operation of the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources, vessels flying the State Flag of Ukraine caught 19,980 tons of valuable Antarctic aquatic biological resources – 19,075 tons of Antarctic krill and 905 tons of toothfish ,” the statement said.
It is noted that this is 54% higher than the figures for 2023 (12,945 tons) and 107% higher than the figures for 2022 (9,659 tons).
Last year, five Ukrainian vessels were fishing in the waters of the Southern Ocean.
Fisheries entities fishing for Antarctic and Patagonian toothfish and Antarctic krill paid more than 7.2 million hryvnias to local budgets in 2024 for the special use of aquatic biological resources – 1.1 million hryvnias more than in 2023.
Let us remind you that in early January, the Ukrainian research ship Noosphere arrived at the Antarctic station Academician Vernadsky.
