Slovakia’s economy minister will go to Turkey to discuss the issue next week.
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico discussed with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan the possibilities of ensuring the security of Russian gas supplies through Turkey. The Turkish President has pledged help in finding a solution to Moscow, Bloomberg reports.
“Concrete steps are needed to cover Slovakia’s natural gas needs,” Erdogan said.
According to him, the Turkish Foreign Minister will contact the Russian Foreign Minister, who will talk to the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
Fico said in a press conference that an alternative solution could be found to supply Russian gas to Slovakia through the Turkish Stream gas pipeline and further to Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary. However, at the same time, it did not provide any details of a possible solution or the amount of gas.
“Partners from Russia should engage in this issue and say if they are ready to increase the amount of gas to reach the Slovak territory,” believes the Slovak Prime Minister.
Slovakia’s economy minister will go to Turkey to discuss the issue next week.
As is known, the Slovak Prime Minister, after his trip to Moscow, invited the Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to a meeting to solve the gas transit problems. However, the latter was skeptical about the Slovak leader’s invitations, so he refused him several times.
Fico then complained to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz about the Ukrainian president, who did not respond to his invitation to meet in Davos, and threatened “measures” if Russian gas supplies were not restored.
