Such records of the amount of coal are explained by the fact that the Russians destroyed a large amount of thermal generation.
Coal reserves in Ukraine reached almost 3 million tons, which is a historic figure. Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal said this during the “time of government questions” in the Verkhovna Rada on Friday, January 10.
“We have about 3 million tons of coal in our warehouses. This is a historical figure, if not throughout history, then certainly in the last 20 years,” he said.
According to the head of the government, such volumes are explained by the fact that the Russians destroyed a large amount of thermal generation.
We remind you that in 2024 the Cabinet of Ministers authorized the export of more than 1 million tons of coal. This decision was made to ensure the operation of state-owned coal mining enterprises and the sale of thermal coal.
It was also reported that by 2024, coal production in Ukraine will exceed pre-war levels. Since the beginning of the year, volumes have increased by 24%.
