From the beginning of 2024, the regulator sold more than $31 billion in the interbank market, and earned only $125 million.
Last week, the National Bank of Ukraine sold a record amount of foreign currency over the past six months. This was confirmed by data on the regulator’s website on Monday, December 16.
So, in the last five working days, the NBU bought only 100 thousand dollars, and sold 1 billion 75 million dollars, which is a third more than last week ($785 million). This is the second indicator in terms of volumes this year. The currency regulator failed more than just at the end of May – $1 billion 91 million.
Overall, since the beginning of 2024, the National Bank sold more than $31.5 billion in the interbank market, and earned only $125.8 million.
Let us remind you that last week the hryvnia exchange rate fell significantly, and the dollar approached a historic maximum. In the last two working days the Hryvnia has slightly recovered its position.
As you know, on December 12, the National Bank unexpectedly increased the discount rate. The regulator made this decision in response to inflation rising to 11.2% in November.
