The year was a record year for Ukrzaliznytsia both in terms of freight transport volumes, which are more than 148 million tons per year, and in passenger transport: more than 20 million people are transported by UZ to its facilities for the second year in a row.
JSC Ukrzaliznytsia carried a record number of passengers and reached a high rate of cargo transportation in 2024. This was announced by the Minister of Community and Territorial Development Alexey Kuleba, reports Interfax-Ukraine on Sunday, December 15.
“We can say that 2024 becomes a record year for Ukrzaliznytsia both in terms of volumes of cargo transportation, which is more than 148 million tons per year, and in passenger transportation, more than 20 million people transported by Ukrzaliznytsia and its facilities,” Kuleba said at the departure ceremony for the first flight of the Kyiv-Budapest train.
The volume of passenger traffic in Uzbekistan is significantly higher than before the full-scale invasion, and passenger traffic in the direction of EU countries will be hundreds of times higher than in 2022.
In addition, by 2025 there are big plans to expand the railway network in European countries. Yes, there are corresponding plans for Romania, increasing the amount of traffic in the direction of Poland.
Kuleba noted that the demand for international rail transport in Ukraine exceeds the supply.
“So, of course, we have a lot of work, we will do everything to reduce the load,” added the Deputy Prime Minister.
In this regard, the head of the branch of the Passenger Company, Oleg Golovashchenko, said that the Kyiv-Budapest train, which operates on its first flight, will continue to run regularly and can be a worthy alternative to the Kyiv-Warsaw train . .
Let us remind you that the industrialists proposed to the government to conduct an international audit of Ukrzaliznytsia. Earlier, the Federation of Transport Employers of Ukraine appealed to Prime Minister Denis Shmygal about the tariffs of Ukrzaliznytsia. They believe that by optimizing the costs of Ukrzaliznytsia it is possible to reduce freight tariffs by 20%.
Subsequently, the industrialists turned to the president about the UZ tariffs, because the plans to increase the tariffs for cargo transportation again created serious threats to both the economy and the defense capability of Ukraine.
