Thierry Hulot, 58, has a specialization in pharmacology and drug metabolism from René Descartes University and Paris Sud. He also holds an MBA from Ashridge University, UK. He began his career in 1989 at the Delagrange laboratory before joining Synthélabo Recherche. He then joined the German pharmaceutical company Merck in 1995, where he held various positions before becoming Group President for France in 2017.
