Russia’s gas share in Europe may be the lowest in 20 years – IEA

By the end of 2022, Russia will meet EU gas needs by just 20%, experts say.

Pipeline gas supplies from Russia to Europe could drop by 45% this year to less than 80 billion cubic meters. m. At the same time, the supply of liquefied natural gas to the EU will increase. This forecast was announced by the International Energy Agency (IEA) in a report released on Tuesday, July 5th.

Thus, Russia’s share of gas in meeting Europe’s demand by the end of 2022 will drop to its lowest level in more than 20 years – 25%. In 2021, gas from the Russian Federation, according to the IEA, will provide almost 40% of Europe’s needs.

“Our forecast is that Russia’s pipeline supplies to the EU will decrease by more than 55% by 2025 compared to 2021 levels, where Russia meets 20% of EU gas needs, “the IEA said in a report.

Experts also predict that by 2027 Russian gas exports to Europe will drop to zero.

“The current forecast is subject to unusually large uncertainty due to Russia’s unexpected behavior,” the IEA added.

Recall that Gazprom reduced exports by almost a third. In five and a half months, Russia has exported less than 65 billion cubic meters of gas.
