This year the area under the buckwheat is reduced. The summer was dry, so the crops were not filled with nature that the farmers expected.
In the Ukrainian market this year, purchase prices for buckwheat have almost doubled, reaching 15 thousand UAH/t, which will inevitably affect the retail cost of the product, said the director of the cereal plant. Ozeryanka Anna Bosyuk in the comments Ukrainform on Tuesday, October 29.
It is predicted that the price in stores may rise to 37-40 UAH per kilogram.
“This year, the area under buckwheat has decreased. The summer was dry, so the crops were not filled with the type that the farmers expected and we hope to get in our production. Now there are still remnants of -last year’s buckwheat harvest farmers hold it back, waiting for the price to rise so that it is more expensive to sell And if before the start of the new buckwheat harvest we buy grains at about 8-10 thousand UAH/t , now around 15 thousand. UAH/t,” explained Bossuk.
In turn, stores cannot quickly respond to rising prices orders have a significant balance. The new batch of buckwheat is being revalued to a higher price.
“It is difficult to predict the price now, but we are guided that we will sell it at 30-35 UAH/kg, and in retail chains it costs about 37-40 UAH,” added the expert.
At the same time, there should be enough buckwheat both for consumption in the domestic market of Ukraine and for export.
It was previously reported that farmers are predicting lower yields due to a dry May. After some time, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy improved the forecast for the grain harvest. The forecast describes a grain harvest of about 56 million tons. Of these, wheat – 21 million tons.
