Currently, the company has passed full certification and codification for mine trawls and mobile shelters by the Ministry of Defense.
From the first days of the whole war, Metinvest began to develop new types of products to protect the military. Now the holding is in direct contact with the Ministry of Defense to conclude contracts that will help to significantly increase the volume of production, writes Ukrainskaya Pravda.
It is indicated that Metinvest has already invested millions of dollars in the production of the products, and they are already producing results on the front. Such developments include armor for armored vehicles and additional protection against FPV drones, which now pose the greatest danger at the front.
While Western manufacturers of armored vehicles are only looking for a solution to this problem, the Ukrainian military has the idea to provide them with protective screens or, as they are popularly called, “lancet catchers.” They cover the weak points: the turret and the engine compartment. There is a need for more such “lancet catchers”, as Ukraine operates thousands of tanks, armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles.
“Here the skills of Ukrainian metallurgists are needed: Metinvest has managed to master the production of metal meshes for the main domestic T-64 and T-72 tanks, American M1 Abrams tanks, Bradley infantry fighting vehicles, and is also preparing to include these in various modifications of Leopard 2,” it said in the article.
The cost of a set of protection is 20 thousand dollars. The company donates protection kits to the military, producing 20-30 of them per month. In total, hundreds of them have been transferred to the front.
Another important development is the mine trawls – after all, minefields stretching for tens of kilometers are one of the most serious problems for the Ukrainian military. To break forward, the tanks must be equipped with mine trawls, and the modernization of these trawls was carried out by Metinvest engineers. They improved the old technology: they attached a trawl of their own production to the T-72 tank and proved it. Now trawls can withstand 8-9 explosions.
The company produces four sets of trawls per month including spare parts, and has already delivered 30 pieces in total. A further increase in production is planned, as the demand of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for trawls is 100 sets per month.
Metinvest plans to receive government contracts, which will allow it to significantly increase the production of some products, said the company’s operating director, Alexander Mironenko.
“We are now in contact with the Ministry of Defense, we have undergone full certification and codification for our mine trawls and mobile shelters. We are now preparing to finalize the first contract development of our products for the military,” he said.
We remind you that Metinvest built an underground hospital – the first in Ukraine and the only one on the European continent. Now it receives 100 wounded soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces every day.
