The screens are designed to protect equipment and the lives of soldiers from attacks from FPV drones. Similar designs are already in use on the T-72, T-64 and Abrams.
The Metinvest company, in its secret production facilities, began to produce steel screens and grilles for Leopard tanks, which are in service with the Ukrainian Armed Forces. The company’s press service reported this on Monday, October 14.
The screens are designed to protect equipment and the lives of soldiers from attacks from FPV drones. According to the company, production began as part of Rinat Akhmetov’s Steel Front initiative. The cost is about 20 thousand dollars, but the supply of protection for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is free, Metinvest clarified.
“The main task of the screens is to protect the equipment without any restrictions on the function, safety for the crew or mobility therefore, the screens are created in a way that does not affect the functional part otherwise, the their use is unjust and unnecessary,” commented the beginning of the production, operating director of the Metinvest group, Alexander Mironenko.
The company added that similar designs are already used in Soviet T-72, Ukrainian T-64 and American M1 Abrams tanks, as well as Bradley infantry fighting vehicles.
“The guys noticed that the survivability of the equipment increased by 30-40%. The vehicle was subsequently taken for restoration,” said Mironenko.
Let’s recall that the serial production of steel screens for protection against FPV drones for T-72, T-64 and Abrams tanks by Akhmetov’s enterprises was reported in May of this year.
At the beginning of October, Metinvest announced the transfer of six steel bunkers to the 15th Kara-Dag operational brigade for the creation of an underground multifunctional command post.
