Ukraine hopes that supplies to European countries that depend on Russian gas will gradually diversify.
Ukraine will not extend the gas transit agreement with Russia after it expires. Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said this at a joint press conference with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico in Uzhgorod on Monday, October 7.
“Ukraine reiterates that it will not renew the transit agreement with Russia after its expiration. war. We call on all European countries to completely abandon oil and gas from the Russian Federation,” said Shmygal.
At the same time, Shmygal noted that Ukraine understands how dependent some states, especially Slovakia, are on Russian gas, but they hope for a gradual diversification of supplies. At the same time, Kyiv is ready to continue fulfilling its obligations in accordance with the Association Agreement with the European Union and the Energy Charter Treaty.
“We also agree to create an energy hub in Eastern Europe, the purpose of which is to use our gas storage facilities, build the Mukachevo interconnector and cooperate with the nuclear industry,” added the head of government.
A day before it became known that Robert Fico plans to convince Ukraine not to stop the transfer of Russian gas and oil after 2024. In his opinion, “both Slovakia and Ukraine will benefit from this.”
Also in September, the media wrote that Russian Lukoil planned to continue exporting oil through the Druzhba pipeline to Slovakia and Hungary after its Hungarian partner MOL entered into agreements to transport this oil through of Belarus and Ukraine.
