Also, for the first time in Ukraine, 1 million tons of rapeseed were processed, which is 23.3% of last year’s harvest.
In Ukraine, in the 2023-2024 marketing year (MY), sunflower oil production volume (+13.7%) and export (+17%) increased compared to the pre-war 2020-2021 MY. The Ukroliyaprom Association reported this the other day.
“The production and export volumes of sunflower oil not only reached, but also exceeded some periods before the war, and reached 6.6 million tons and 6.2 million tons, respectively Compared to pre-war 2020 /21 MY, the production and export volumes of sunflower oil in 2023/24 MY grew by 13.7% and 17% respectively,” said the report.
Growth in sunflower oil production has been facilitated by the expansion of seed processing. Specifically, 14.8 million tons of sunflower seeds were processed, which is 1.3 million tons more than in 2022/23 MY.
Also, for the first time in Ukraine, 1 million tons of rapeseed were processed, which is 23.3% of last year’s harvest, and exports of rapeseed oil reached a record 424 thousand tons (+404% compared to 2022 /23). Production and exports of soybean oil and meal also increased – by 22% and 29%, respectively.
In total, Ukraine processed 17.4 million tons of oilseeds, of which 14.8 million tons of sunflower, 1.6 million tons of soybeans and one million tons of rapeseed.
According to forecasts, in 2024/25 MY, sunflower production will decrease to 12-12.5 million tons, due to a reduction in sown areas of 2-3%. At the same time, soybean production will increase to 5.1-5.5 million tons, thanks to the increase of planting areas by more than 46%. Rapeseed seed production is expected to be 3.4-3.6 million tonnes compared to 4.1-4.4 million tonnes in 2023/24 MY.
Let us remind you that this year Ukraine harvested four times more wheat than its own needs – 22 million tons. The total amount of grain taken has reached almost 40 million tons.
