The Ministry of Defense managed to invest more than $7 billion in the development of Ukraine’s defense industry. Defense Minister Rustem Umerov announced this at the forum Ukraine 2024. Freedom on Tuesday, August 27th.
“We have created agencies that work both in the logistics sector and in defense procurement, that is, lethal and non-lethal, together with the government and the Verkhovna Rada, we have invested more than $7 billion in our defense industry, which became significant. support in the conditions of limited international technical assistance,” said Umerov.
The minister also focused on the fact that they mainly invested in military technologies such as drones, electronic warfare systems, ground robotic systems, and also created a unified state register of conscripts and situational awareness systems. Programs are launched Reserve+ And Army+and in collaboration with the Ministry of Veterans and the Ministry of Digital Development it is planned to create a program Veteran+.
Umerov added that the work will continue to fight corruption, the department cooperates with anti-corruption authorities and invests in the development of the defense industry.
We reported that the security and defense sector in January-July 2024 received one trillion hryvnias from the state budget – 58.1% of the total amount of general fund expenses.
Earlier in July, the Cabinet of Ministers approved changes to the state budget, proposing to increase its spending by UAH 500.3 billion, of which UAH 495.3 billion will be allocated to the needs of the security and defense sector.
