Until the first quarter of 2022, only 35% of Peruvian seniors were linked to the pension system, according to a report from the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics.ERI).
The Situation of Older Adults technical report shows that only three out of every ten Peruvians close to retirement age are affiliated with the Office of Pensions Normalization (ONP) or Pension Fund Administrators (AFP).
This figure has risen by at least 0.6% over the past year, but still 65% elderly people they do not have access to the pension system.
It is indicated that of the total number of affiliated older people, the majority chose the ED, exactly 18%.
While 10.6% are associated with AFP and 3.3% adhere to the old regime called “Cédula Viva”.
On the other hand, 18.4% of senior household heads are beneficiaries of the Pension 65 social program, which provides them with S$250 every two months.
Of the total elderly people over 60 years of age, 49.7% continue to be part of the economically active population (EAP), of which 60.6% are men and 40.2% are women.
In addition, INEI also indicates that 87.9% of older people in Peru have some form of public or private health insurance.
Only 3 out of 10 older people have access to it’s health and about five are linked to Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS).
