The funds were frozen amid an investigation into suspected money laundering, Swissinfo wrote.
The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) has frozen 1.25 billion francs (1.3 billion euros) amid an investigation into four individuals linked to Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov. This was reported by local media Swissinfo.
According to SECO, the total value of assets frozen in Switzerland as a result of sanctions imposed on Russia in connection with its aggression against Ukraine reached 7.1 billion Swiss francs (7.4 billion euros) as of August 13, 2024.
Additionally, 17 real estate properties, luxury vehicles, works of art, furniture and musical instruments owned by individuals or legal entities subject to EU and Swiss sanctions were blocked.
Currently, an investigation is underway against four people and another “unknown person” on suspicion of money laundering/legalization of criminal capital and violation of the Swiss law regulating the introduction of sanctions against foreign countries in relation to the situation around Ukraine.
As part of the criminal proceedings, the Federal Prosecutor’s Office and the Federal Criminal Police Office conducted a total of eight searches in the cantons of Lucerne, Zug and Nidwalden in cooperation with the respective cantonal law enforcement authorities.
