Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is trying to maintain gas flows for this reason, said the former director of OGTSU.
Slovakian gas transmission system operator Eustream and the country’s largest energy trader SPP earn up to $1.5 billion annually from Russian gas operations. These numbers were mentioned by the former director of Ukrainian GTS Operator Sergei Makogon in an interview LIGA.net.
“Slovak GTS operator Eustream earns money on transit, and their largest trader SPP earns on resale I estimate the annual gross income of these two Slovak companies from operations with Russian gas at $1.2- 1.5 billion,” said the former director.
That is why Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico is in favor of maintaining Russian gas flows in the country, Makogon believes.
As is known, Hungary and Slovakia appealed to the European Commission with a request to persuade Ukraine to lift the ban on the transfer of Russian oil from Lukoil, but they were rejected. At the same time, the European Commission has not yet formed its final opinion on the situation.
