Google and TikTok have been fined for failing to comply with communications regulator Roskomnadzor’s order on banned content, Reuters reports.
Moscow’s Tagansky District Court fined Google 5 million rubles ($58,038) and TikTok 4 million rubles for failing to identify content similar to what they were ordered to remove.
For years, Russia has required foreign technology platforms to remove content it deems illegal, imposing small but consistent fines when they don’t comply.
The Russian Federation criticized Google for removing YouTube channels of Russian media and public figures.
