Eurozone GDP grew better than forecast

Experts expect GDP in April-June to increase by 0.2% in quarterly terms and by 0.5% in annual terms.

Eurozone GDP increased by 0.3% in the second quarter of 2024 compared to the previous three months. This is stated in the report of the Statistical Office of the European Union.

In annual terms, the eurozone economy grew by 0.6%.

Experts on average expect GDP in April-June to increase by 0.2% in quarterly terms and by 0.5% in annual terms.

In the first quarter, the eurozone economy grew by 0.3% compared to the previous three months and by 0.5% in annual terms.

Germany’s GDP in the second quarter decreased by 0.1% compared to the previous quarter, France – increased by 0.3%, Italy – by 0.2%, Spain – by 0.8%.

The EU economy in April-June grew by 0.3% quarterly and 0.7% in annual terms, according to preliminary data.

This is the first of three estimates of GDP change. The second assessment will be published on August 14.

Let’s recall that in May, private sector business activity in the Eurozone reached its highest level in the previous year.
