In order to solve the problem of money shortages, the parliament should support the related initiatives of the government on taxation, said Sergei Marchenko.
The budget deficit of Ukraine is 500 billion Hryvnia. If the Verkhovna Rada does not support the government’s tax package, problems with paying the military may arise in September. Finance Minister Sergei Marchenko said this in an interview for RBC-Ukraine, published on Tuesday, July 30.
“If the parliament supports the government’s initiatives on sources of additional income for 500 billion hryvnias, it means that we are capable of difficult decisions. If we do not find these funds, there may be interruptions in the payments of money in September it’s obvious. So now it’s critical to make the necessary decisions,” he said.
So, according to Marchenko, in May the deficit for the military was $5 billion, and in July it was $6 billion.
He emphasized that now it is necessary to meet the needs that arose after the transfer of money to provide the military with the purchase of weapons for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“But we still need to cover the needs, taking into account the fact that we transferred funds from financial support for the military to the purchase of weapons at the beginning of this year, Therefore, the total need is 500 billion hryvnia , which we provided for budget changes It is about $12 billion, “added the minister.
Earlier in July, the Cabinet of Ministers approved changes to the state budget, proposing to increase its spending by UAH 500.3 billion, of which UAH 495.3 billion will be allocated to the needs of the security and defense sector.
