Despite the price increase, today watermelons in Ukraine are offered for sale on average 52% cheaper than in the second half of July 2023.
Ukrainian watermelon producers have the opportunity to increase the selling prices for their products. Producers managed to send watermelons for 7-15 UAH/kg, which is on average 23% more expensive than last week. This is confirmed by monitoring data from the EastFruit project, published on the eve of July 25.
Analysts attribute the price increase to a reduction in the supply of watermelons from local farms. Due to the weather, part of the harvest of these melons died in the field.

Market players consider this situation to be a temporary phenomenon. Once the harvesting operation resumes, the supply of watermelons in the market will increase, which will lead to a rapid drop in prices. Moreover, due to the hot weather, the quality of watermelons in the fields has noticeably deteriorated, which means that the percentage of substandard products will increase significantly, which farmers will try to sell as soon as possible.
Supply may also increase, as some farms in the central and western regions are just beginning mass harvest.
We reported that the sharp drop in prices last week was due to several factors. First of all, it is the transfer of cultural production in Ukraine.
We remind you that the abnormal heat in Ukraine affects the early grain harvest, but it is not critical. At the same time, this weather is dangerous for late grains, sunflowers and soybeans.
