Since the beginning of this year, the National Bank has sold $16.4 billion in the interbank market and bought only $118 million.
This week, the National Bank of Ukraine significantly increased sales of foreign currency. This was confirmed by data on the regulator’s website on Saturday, July 20.
Thus, in five working days, the NBU sold more than $950 million in the interbank foreign exchange market, which is more than last week ($532 million). That’s the most sales since late May, when nearly $1.1 billion was sold.
Also in one week, the regulator bought 270 thousand dollars in the interbank market.
In total, since the beginning of 2024, the National Bank sold $16.4 billion in the interbank market and earned almost $118 million.
As you know, this week, the dollar exchange regularly updates its historical record. Overall, in July the official exchange rate of the Hryvnia fell by 2.6% or UAH 1.04. From the beginning of 2024, the dollar at the official exchange rate has become more expensive by 9.2% or 3.49 UAH.
Earlier on Thursday, the NBU said that further growth of the dollar threatens price stability. Therefore, the regulator is ready to take the necessary steps to ensure the stability of the foreign exchange market.
At the same time, the Cabinet of Ministers predicts a further increase in the dollar exchange rate. According to the Budget Declaration, in 2025 the average exchange rate will increase by 10% to 45 UAH/dollar. At the same time, the budget for 2024 includes an average exchange rate of 40.7 UAH/dollar and 42.1 UAH/dollar in December.
