“EU free trade violation”: China launches its own investigation

Beijing complains that the EU’s investigation of its products violates the principles of free trade.

China is investigating whether EU tariffs against Beijing pose a barrier to free trade. Bloomberg reported this.

The Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China began the investigation after a request from the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products. We are talking about trains, photovoltaic products, wind energy and safety equipment.

The process must be completed by January 10, with a possible extension to mid-April.

Trade tensions between the EU and China are rising over claims that the EU believes Beijing is using unfair trade practices to gain advantages for its companies.

China has complained that the EU’s investigation into its products violates free trade principles.

The EU says its tariffs on electric cars are compensation for massive subsidies by the Beijing government that have given Chinese companies an unfair head start.
