It was reported that in April-May, 132 thousand tons of coal were shipped from the Russian Federation through the North Korean port of Rajin. Coal is delivered to this port through the Hassan-Rajin border crossing.
It was also noted that before this, the latest public data on coal supplies in the DPRK appeared in 2021, when Russia brought 15 thousand tons of fuel worth 836.7 thousand dollars to North Korea by train.
The publication added that many Russian businessmen refrained from using the Khasan-Rajin project in 2019 for fear of being subject to US sanctions.
The North Korean route allows Russian coal companies to avoid restrictions on rail traffic at Far Eastern ports and increase overland exports to China. In particular, in January-May, about 7.6 million tons of coal were transported through border crossings for export, which was 2.7 million tons more than a year ago.
It is also reported that the trade through North Korea is an additional 2-3 million tons of coal per year that is sent to China.
It was previously reported that the United States, South Korea and Japan condemned the cooperation between the Russian Federation and the DPRK.
