This is the first major joint action by Black Sea countries initiated by Istanbul, aimed at neutralizing drifting mines in the Black Sea.
Turkey, Romania and Bulgaria have launched a joint mine action operation in the Black Sea to improve the safety of shipping, including grain exports from Ukraine, writes Bloomberg.
It is reported to be the first major joint action by Black Sea countries initiated by Istanbul, aimed at neutralizing drifting mines in the Black Sea.
It was noted that the war jeopardized the safe passage of goods. And although Kyiv launched its own Black Sea export route last year after Russia violated a secure corridor agreement, the route remains dangerous due to a significant mine threat.
Notably, last year, a Russian missile hit a commercial ship near the port of Odessa, killing one of the crew and injuring others. Additionally, a ship leased by agricultural giant Cargill Inc. was also damaged by an explosion while leaving a Ukrainian port.
Ukraine also said in March that exports from Black Sea ports had returned to pre-war levels, but ports around Odessa were still suffering from Russian attacks.
It was recently reported that in the Odessa region the Navy detonated a mine that washed ashore.
