Finnish state energy company Gasum will stop buying and importing Russian LNG from the end of July.
The Finnish state energy company Gasum, a major supplier to the Scandinavian countries, will not buy or import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Russia from July 26. The company’s press service reported this on Tuesday, June 25.
“Gasum complies with all sanctions imposed by the EU and will not buy or import Russian LNG from July 26,” the statement said.
The company noted that EU sanctions do not allow it to terminate the contract with the Russian Gazprom for the supply of LNG, but they are a force majeure circumstance that prevents the purchase or import of LNG from the Russian Federation for autonomous terminals.
Contract between Gasum and Gazprom is completed before 2022 under the so-called “take or pay” agreement (it will oblige the Finnish company to pay for the contracted gas regardless of whether it is used or not).
We remind you that on June 24, the European Union approved the 14th package of sanctions against Russia. In particular, it placed restrictions on the purchase or import of Russian LNG through EU terminals not connected to the EU gas network.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to the 14th package of sanctions of the European Union, announced the expansion of the list of people prohibited from entering the Russian Federation.
