NY Gov. ‘Absolutely Shocking’ Supreme Court Decision On Gun Law

New York Gov. Katie Hochley (D) entered the Supreme Court after overturning the state’s century-old gun control law on Thursday, saying it was an “absolutely shocking” decision that “knows- creeps in its entirety ”and“ possibly millions of New Yorkers are mistakenly keeping track ”.

“If the federal government does not have comprehensive laws to protect us, our states and governors have a moral responsibility to do our best and have laws that protect our citizens from what is happening: the madness of gun culture. “Now everyone has it, even the Supreme Court,” he said at the event.

The governor promised to do everything in his power to keep restrictions on transportation permits hidden after the Supreme Court’s decision that New York law was too strict.

Most states – Supreme Court 43 – require licenses to legally carry secret firearms; New York is among the few that does not need to be licensed to anyone applying for a license. Instead, people need to show why the need for protection outside the home is greater than the general population.

States with such restrictive restrictions account for nearly a quarter of the U.S. population. These laws are in legal danger now.

State officials are aware of this potential outcome against the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Brown and said they are working with legal experts to develop a “nationwide” plan.

Manhattan Attorney General Alvin Bragg agrees. “Right now, my office is reviewing this management and enforcing firearms safety legislation that will take the strongest steps to mitigate the damage done today,” Bragg said in a statement.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams also stressed the planning efforts on Twitter, saying the decision would “put New Yorkers at risk of further armed violence.” There have been two shootings on the city’s subway in recent months.

Hochul has several options, including imposing restrictions on carrying concealed weapons in “sensitive” areas and requiring mandatory gun safety training.

While the Supreme Court supports the idea that guns can be banned in sensitive areas such as schools and government buildings, it dismissed the Brunei state’s argument that most public space can be considered sensitive.

Respondents ’attempts to define New York’s request with good reason as a“ sensitive area ”law are inappropriate, as there is no historical basis for New York to actually declare the island of Manhattan a“ sensitive area. “just because it’s crowded and protected. . “Generally, from the New York Police Department,” the court said.

In other words, this Supreme Court decision would put New Yorkers at risk of further gun violence.

We are preparing for this decision and will continue to do everything possible to work with our federal, state and local partners to protect our city. https://t.co/rLvU0gs6zi

The court rejected the “full meaning” of the term “sensitive areas” in a written statement by Conservative Judge Clarence Thomas. Instead, states should look for historical analogues to determine if the law is constitutional, he said.

Judge Stephen Breyer criticized the idea and asked others, “So where does he leave so many places in the modern city that don’t have clear analogues from the 18th or 19th century? How about subways, discos, cinemas? and a sports stadium? “

He continued: “I fear that it is often difficult to identify similar technological and social problems of medieval England, the period of establishment or the period in which the Fourteenth Amendment was enacted.”

Hochul commented on the event of the signing of the Activated Law Bill after the mass shooting in a Buffalo supermarket by an alleged white supremacist. He regrets how the court decision came just weeks after a mass shooting in Buffalo and another Texas city, Waldad, that resulted in the deaths of 21 people, including 19 children.

“I am sorry that this dark day has come, that we have to go back to what it was in 1788, when the Constitution of the United States was adopted.” And I want to point out to the justices of the Supreme Court that was the only weapon at that time are the musketeers, ”Hochul said.

“I’m ready to go back to the Musketeers,” he added.
