In order to quickly overcome the energy crisis in Ukraine, it is necessary to expand the possibilities for importing electricity, noted Maxim Timchenko.
Due to Russia’s continued attacks on energy facilities, the DTEK group has 460 MW of thermal power plant capacity remaining out of 5 thousand MW. The company’s CEO Maxim Timchenko said this at the international conference on the restoration of Ukraine in Berlin, the British newspaper Financial Times reported on Wednesday, June 12.
“Right now, we only have 460 MW (0.5 GW – ed.) of the 5 thousand MW (5 GW – ed.) we had before,” he said and clarified that we are talking about the loss of 90% of the thermal generation of company.
The head of DTEK stressed that in order to quickly overcome the energy crisis in Ukraine, it is necessary to expand the ability to import electricity from the current 1.7 GW to 2.25-2.5 GW.
The Financial Times writes that DTEK is now working with energy companies in neighboring European countries to buy and attract equipment that can be quickly installed in damaged thermal power plants. Negotiations are also ongoing with international donors to open new lines of credit to finance urgent repairs.
The day before, President Vladimir Zelensky told a conference in Berlin that Russia destroyed 80% of thermal generation and a third of hydroelectric generation in Ukraine. According to him, before the winter there is a need to quickly and cheaply restore the damaged energy facilities that can be restored.
The president also said that by 2024 Ukraine plans to build 1 GW of new generation.
