This week, the National Bank of Ukraine significantly reduced the sale of foreign currency. This was confirmed by data on the regulator’s website on Sunday, June 9.
Thus, in five working days, the NBU sold $694.7 million in the interbank foreign exchange market, which is a third less than last week’s record ($1.1 billion). At the same time, the regulator did not buy foreign currency.
In total, since the beginning of 2024, the National Bank sold almost $12 billion in the interbank market, and earned only $115 million.
Let us remind you that this week the Hryvnia is mainly strengthening, but in recent days the dollar has continued its growth and is again approaching historical highs.
The National Bank also explained the reasons for the sharp increase in the dollar exchange rate in May. According to the regulator, demand for foreign currency jumped 41% last month.
