Market players are preparing to import electricity, but this figure will be 50%, said the National Association of the Mining Industry of Ukraine.
The decision to import 80% of electricity for business, made by the Cabinet of Ministers, needs to be changed, because Ukraine is not even capable of importing such volumes of energy. As a result, Ukrainian businesses will lose their competitiveness in world markets. This was said by the executive director of the National Association of the Mining Industry of Ukraine Ksenia Orinchak.
According to him, all the main players in the market are actually preparing to import electricity, but this figure will be 50% and renewable energy can save the situation.
“But regarding the obligation that we must buy 80% of imported electricity, this is a completely absurd decision Because with 80% we can diversify electricity in the EU, and not the other way around,” Orinchak said.
He believes that before making such a decision, the government should have negotiated with business and found a compromise solution.
“I think we will fight this Still, we cannot tell a private investor that it should be this way and no other way We will still seek dialogue, and another blow to business in the form of obligations for 80% of the import “This seems to be a deliberate policy of destroying the economy of Ukraine Therefore, before raising tariffs and finding funds for the army, the authorities still need to sit at the negotiating table with the mining business. concluded the director of the Society.
Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted amendments to the resolution stating that any industrial facility must import 80% of the electricity for its needs. Ukrainergo for its part it guarantees another 20% for the industry. In such conditions, the price for the transmission of electricity across the border will increase significantly, and it will be easier for some enterprises to simply stop instead of importing.
We remind you that from June 1, 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers significantly increased electricity bills for the population – up to 4.32 UAH/kWh. At the same time, Ukraine increased the maximum price of electricity for businesses.
