BUT total SGD 11,115 million lost per year, due to the time that the resident of Lima spends in traffic jams. This is the result of the technical report “Economic costs caused by traffic jams” prepared by the Automobile Association of Peru.
For this study, it was taken into account that 38% of Lima’s population lose an hour and a half on traffic congestionaccording to Fundación Transitemos.
These 38% represent 1,919,380 of the total economically active employed population that submitted the INEI Employment Report in the January-March-April 2022 transition quarter.
Assuming that a working hour is equivalent to S/8.25, the study found that S/23.75 million is wasted per day. Metropolitan of Lima and Callao is SGD 8.25, it can be determined that the total loss is SGD 5,701 million per year,” said Alberto Morisaki, AAP¨ Economic Research Manager.

Do?
Alberto Morisaki andHe explained that these costs could be minimized through road infrastructure works which, if implemented effectively, could result in savings of S$6,670.
“If it is possible to reduce traffic congestion by 40% through measures such as redevelopment of roads and intersections, through low-cost infrastructure interventions and the establishment of an efficient traffic signal system, among other things, the economic loss caused by congestion will be reduced, could be reduced from SGD 11,115 million dollars to SGD 6,670 million,” he said.
