Currently, electrical engineers do not have sufficient skills to balance the electrical system during hot weather and reduce flooding.
The hot weather and the receding flood caused an increase in power shortages in the energy system. DTEK Executive Director Dmitry Sakharuk announced this on Public Radio.
“Back then, the deficit was smaller than it is now. The last three days, many air conditioners have been quite hot – and the demand for electricity, on the other hand, the size of imports that the country can attract has not increased, it are the same,” he said, adding, that in a more comfortable temperature for energy workers, imports would have been enough to balance the energy system, but now they are no longer there.
Also, the increase in the deficit is influenced by the decrease in floods.
“Today the amount of water is becoming smaller, and therefore the ability to balance the system by increasing generation in hydroelectric power plants is becoming less,” Sakharuk explained.
It was previously reported that as a result of the last five massive Russian missile attacks on the energy system, Ukraine lost 8 GW of generating capacity. Thermal generation was almost destroyed, and hydroelectric power stations were also damaged. Due to the lack of electricity in the country, consumer shutdown schedules were introduced.
