The business community is very worried about the lifeless reaction and activities of the responsible institutional structures of Ukraine, said Anatoly Kinakh.
The introduction of SVAM carbon duties will cost Ukrainian producers more than 1 billion per year. Therefore, the authorities should be as active as possible and negotiate with the Europeans to protect the domestic economy. This was said by the President of the Ukrainian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (USPP) Anatoly Kinakh.

“Both I and the business community are very concerned about the sluggish reaction and activity of the responsible institutional structures of Ukraine – both the executive and legislative branches are now required to enter the process of negotiations with international structure and with our allies seriously and rationally,” said Kinakh.
He recalled that Ukraine has examples of successful negotiations – in particular, in the direction of the World Trade Organization, where the government used arguments to strengthen protectionism related to the national economy. Now it is important to extend these actions to protect the industry from paying duties.
“Today, when we finance about 47% of our expenses from the national economy, and the rest is external financing, including credits, loans, and partial grants, it requires us to do very seriously , targeted efforts not only to ensure the sustainability of the national economy, but also the gradual increase of our economic and financial independence.
According to him, the authorities should create special conditions for business, because now Ukraine has lost almost a third of its economy because of the war with Russia.
Earlier, Politico reported that Europe is helping Ukraine with funding on the one hand, and on the other it is promoting SVAM’s carbon duty, which will cost Ukraine 1.4 billion euros annually. At the same time, this damage can be avoided by starting negotiations with the EU, because the CBAM law has a provision where a country can receive tax benefits if it has force majeure events. Ukraine has grounds to ask the EU for a delay in this matter because of a full-scale war with Russia.
