Microsoft has developed a generative artificial intelligence model based on GPT4 for US intelligence agencies, which can work completely without the Internet and can be used to analyze the most secret information. Bloomberg reported this.
This is the first time that a large language model works completely without the Internet. Most AI models, including OpenAI’s ChatGPT, rely on cloud services to learn and identify patterns based on it, but Microsoft wants to provide the US intelligence agency with a secure system.
“This is the first time we’ve had a sandboxed version – sandboxed meaning it’s not connected to the internet – and it’s on a special network that only the US government can access,” said William Chappell, Microsoft’s chief technology officer for strategic missions and technology.
This new AI model, hosted in the cloud, is static, meaning it can read files but not learn from them or the open internet. In this way, the US government can prevent the leakage of classified information.
It’s noted that Microsoft has been working on its system for the past 18 months, including modifying an existing artificial intelligence supercomputer in Iowa. The service must now be evaluated and recognized by the intelligence community.
We remind you that Microsoft intends to invest about $2.9 billion in the development of cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence in Japan over the next two years.
It was previously reported that Intel intends to spend $100 billion over five years to build and expand factories in four US states that will create artificial intelligence microchips.
