The construction of protective fortifications of the first and second lines of defense was intensified in December 2023 in coordination with the Ukrainian Defense Ministry and in cooperation with engineering troops, Akhmetov’s holding company reported.
SCM holding companies built 55 platoon strongholds with a total length of more than 80 km in the Avdeevsky, Kurakhovsky and Zaporozhye directions of combat operations. This was reported by the press service of the Metinvest group, part of which is held by Rinat Akhmetov.

Metinvest added that up to one hundred specialists (drivers, crane and excavator operators) and up to 25 units of multi-disciplinary special equipment are involved in the construction of protective structures. The companies of the group also supplied construction materials for the structures, including the use of their own construction of “steel caches” – mobile steel bunkers. In particular, 43 such structures were installed in the indicated sections of the front.
