Repairs to the Balticconnector gas pipeline in the Baltic Sea between Estonia and Finland have been completed and gas flow is now open. Yle television and radio company reported this on Monday, April 22.
It is indicated that the area of damage is at a depth of 60 meters of the seabed. The repair was carried out without the participation of divers – using remotely controlled equipment.
“Usually repairs of this scale take one to two years. The Balticconnector was repaired in seven months,” said pipeline maintenance manager at Estonian gas transportation company Elering Tiit Tumits.
The renovation is said to cost less than 40 million euros. They plan to pay them at the expense of the insurance company, but the decision has not been made yet.
Let’s remember that on October 10, 2023, the Finnish government announced that Russia could attack the Balticconnector, located in the Baltic Sea.
Later, the media reported that a ship from China may have been involved in the damage to the gas pipeline.
