Against the backdrop of a large-scale war and an unstable economic situation, the gradual increase in the price of the food basket is a natural phenomenon.

This process has been observed in Ukraine since the beginning of the mass invasion. In fact, the price increase happened before, but it was after February 24, 2022 that its speed increased significantly.

At the beginning of 2024, the total monthly cost of the food basket in Ukraine is UAH 2,818, which is almost 22% more than at the beginning of 2023. Analysts say that this is about 49.3% of the minimum wage. Last year this part was 42.8% of wages. Accordingly, it can be said that the increase in prices in the country is more than the increase in the minimum wage.

A similar situation is observed in almost all commercial areas. According to experts from the Codes information service, Ukrainians have become more likely to buy equipment and electronics. And when buying, they increasingly use various bonuses or promotional codes to save money. For example, they use a promotional code on the Allo website, which in some cases allows you to save up to 30-40% on your purchase.

In general, the company says that the buying habits of Ukrainians have changed significantly in recent years. Spontaneous purchases have become relatively rare. But there is increased activity among aggregators of promotional codes and discounts.

Among the main products that Ukrainians are trying to save are the following:

● clothes and shoes;
● household chemicals;
● cosmetics and perfumes;
● recreation and leisure.

According to the results of surveys, about 55% of Ukrainians began to visit restaurants and bars more often. Save 65% on outdoor entertainment. And 58% attended cinemas, concerts and other public events more often than in 2023.

But our compatriots are the least likely to try to save on medicines, children’s goods and groceries. About 47% of respondents said they buy food for future use. And 42% say they buy medicine for future use.

However, there are also categories of expenses that, on the contrary, have increased recently. In particular, about 32% of respondents said they have increased their spending on television viewing and subscriptions to streaming services such as Netflix, Megogo, etc. Considering that spending on outdoor entertainment has significantly decreased, this trend seems natural. However, it is still difficult to talk about a steady growth in the popularity of streaming services. The aggressor country continued its attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Unfortunately, if the attacks continue and Ukraine faces blackouts and regular blackouts, the demand for paid streaming services will decrease dramatically.

Codes is an information service that offers free promotional codes and coupons for many popular brands.
