Parliament approved amendments to the 2017 free trade agreement with Canada, adding services to the current agreement.
The Verkhovna Rada adopted the updated free trade agreement with Canada, adding the service sector to the existing agreement. MP Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced this on Telegram on Wednesday, April 10.
The corresponding bill No. 0242 was generally supported by 317 parliamentarians.
The updated free trade agreement between Ukraine and Canada was signed by President Vladimir Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on September 23, 2023.
According to First Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Economy Yulia Sviridenko, this agreement is one of the most modern in the world. Its text is complicated by the standards of the Canada-US-Mexico Free Trade Agreement and the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement, which Ukraine is preparing to join.
“It provides for the liberalization of the market for services in a negative list. That is, when everything is permitted where there are no reservations specified in the agreement,” he said.
According to Sviridenko, investment protection will be strengthened with new comprehensive and modern tools.
In addition, thanks to the agreement, employees of Ukrainian companies that will provide services in Canada can temporarily enter Canada under simplified and expanded conditions.
The updated document also expands the possibilities of digital trade between Ukraine and Canada, and for goods exported to Canada duty-free, it is possible to use components from the EU, Britain, and Israel , which will expand Ukraine’s participation in global supply chains. .
