The company has laid off more than 600 workers in California as part of winding down its auto manufacturing initiative.
The American technology company Apple has laid off 614 workers in Santa Clara (California). This is the first mass layoff at the company in a long time, writes the San Francisco Chronicle.
It was noted that the layoffs affected eight offices in Santa Clara, mainly among the laid off employees who worked on the canceled Apple electric car project.
Workers were notified of the layoffs on March 28, with the orders taking effect on May 27. The layoffs affected machine shop managers, hardware engineers and product design engineers.
Let’s remember that at the end of March Apple abandoned the development of its own electric car. This project was started in 2014, but after years of effort, the company finally decided to cancel it.
