Ukrainian specialists, using augmented reality, performed maintenance twice as fast as most competitors in neighboring countries.

The transformation of business processes in metallurgy thanks to new technologies occurs more slowly than in other industries. But thanks to their use, Ukrainian factories are ahead of competitors in neighboring countries in terms of development. The CEO of the group said this Metinvest Yuri Ryzhenkov during the G7 conference, the company’s press service reported on Thursday, March 14.

He recalled that politicians around the world were talking about a “green” course. And the steel industry is at the top of the agenda of this course as a key actor in the adoption of green technologies.

“But at the same time, metallurgy is a very traditional industry, the technologies have been developed for a long time, and now it is impossible to make a big breakthrough. You can only gradually improve the system. And when it comes to gradually- gradual improvements, this is where digitalization and artificial intelligence come in. This is what can make the industry not only more environmentally friendly, but more efficient and more competitive, “said Ryzhenkov.

He said that in 2021 the plant Azovstal thanks to artificial intelligence (AI) and analytics, it leads all competitors in terms of process efficiency. Ukrainian specialists, using augmented reality, were able to perform maintenance twice as fast as most of our competitors in neighboring countries.

“The implemented “space” computer vision system sets new standards for the quality of our products. Ultimately, the internal data management and communication system gave us the opportunity to properly manage the company in in the midst of Europe’s most brutal war since World War II,” the CEO said.

According to him, many managers of enterprises in heavy industry are now talking not only about “green” transition, but about “green” and digital transitions for metallurgy. At the same time, the industry is in dire need of IT specialists for implementation.

“The transition to a green course will not be easy. After all, we do not have enough IT specialists to work on the change. Just five to seven years ago we were looking for metallurgical engineers that we could teach IT . Now the other We are preparing the IT specialists whom we teach metallurgy. And these are the people who will be in charge during the “green” and digital transition of our company,” concluded Ryzhenkov.

Previously on Metinvest announced plans to invest $9 billion in green innovation. The company plans to start building a rolling mill in Italy, which it calls a “pilot project for the reconstruction of Zaporizhstal.”

Also Metinvest join Ukraine’s green transition project, estimated at $35 billion. Such investments will ensure the production of up to 15 million tons of “green” steel per year.
