Nuclear fuel from the American company Westinghouse was delivered for two power units of the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant. It was reported by Energoatom on Friday, March 8th.
“Fresh nuclear fuel (FNF) from Westinghouse for two Khmelnytsky NPP power units with VVER-1000 reactors is already on site at the station. Now all domestic nuclear power plants will use American fuel assemblies. They will be placed in reactors of Khmelnitsky NPP this year – during scheduled maintenance “, the message said.
It is indicated that the KhNPP units still operate on Russian fuel, which was purchased before the full invasion. But after February 24, 2022, Energoatom completely stopped cooperation with the aggressor country.
SA Energoatom added that they have carried out some technical work and purchased the necessary equipment so that all nuclear power units with VVER-1000 and VVER-440 reactors can operate on Westinghouse nuclear fuel.
We remind you that in 2024, Ukraine will start building four reactors at KhNPP. Two of them were previously built, but frozen.
It was also reported that two units at KhNPP will be the modern AP1000 project.
